Original and replacement low beam light bulbs for Soarers

Firstly, there is the original KOITO 55W/12V part that fits direct to the Soarer low beam headlamps.

Secondly, there is an alternative part made by NARVA known as NARVA PLUS 30, part No. 48016BL. It is Xenon filled and designated HB3 12V 60W P20d. However, it is not suitable as a direct replacement and needs some modifications before it can be used in the Soarer, as described below.

As can be seen above, the filament inside the KOITO bulb is positioned across the tube and in the NARVA bulb is positioned along the tube.

As a matter of interest, here is comparison of the filament in a 10 year-old KOITO light bulb against a brand new filament of the same type.

One difference between the KOITO and NARVA bulbs is in the shape of the fastening lugs.

The difference can be eliminated by filing the two excessively large lugs of the NARVA light bulb located close to the socket to the shape of the two smaller lugs on the KOITO bulb.

Another difference between the KOITO and NARVA bulbs is in the shape of the wiring connector receptacle. Inside the light-bulb socket there is a single internal rib in the KOITO product against two such ribs inside the NARVA product.

Solution is to remove both internal ribs, e.g. by the Dremel tool, as shown here.

Following the two minor modifications the NARVA light bulbs can be installed in the low-beam lights of the Soarer.
